In 35 years of
coaching (always as
head coach) at
Western Oregon State
College (1947-1982),
Bill McArthur
compiled an
outstanding record
of 181 victories,
115 losses and 7
ties for a .609
average. Bill ranks
fourth among the
nation’s winningest
small college
coaches. As a
tribute to his
career, Dr. McArthur
was inducted into
the District 2
Coaches Hall of Fame
in 1973 and the
National NAIA Hall
of Fame in 1983. In
addition, WOSC
dedicated its
football field to
Bill in 1980,
renaming it McArthur
Field. Bill
currently consults
at the high school
level and resides in
Monmouth.
